Asarum leucosepalum
Aristolochiaceae
- Range
- Endemic to Tokunoshima
In the diorama, it blooms with stunning white flowers.
This is one of the four wild ginger species found on Tokunoshima. From January to March, it produces white flowers, which are rare among wild gingers. The contrast between the white petal-like sepals and the red ring makes it particularly beautiful, thus this plant has been featured as the emblem of our center. Although it is endemic to the island, much remains unknown about its distribution on Tokunoshima.

Habitat of This Animal:
A:Forest along the valley - A2:Forest along the mountain streams
In Tokunoshima Island, abundant rainwater carved the ground, forming many rows of ridges and valleys. Plants adapting to the flowing and drying up of water grow in the harsh environment, where water swells and depletes every time rain falls. The waterfront is also a habitat for many creatures, including endemic species, with frogs and dragonflies breeding.
