In the diorama, you can observe its distinctive bark along the stream.
This tall deciduous tree is found in moist habitats such as mountain streams and valleys. It is exclusively found in the Amami Islands in Japan. Its brownish-red bark often peels away, revealing white markings, which make the trunk the most distinctive feature of the tree. In summer, small flowers are densely clustered at the tips of the branches. Within the nation, the only species from the genus Lagerstroemia is this tree and its variety, L. s. var. fauriei.

Habitat of This Animal:
A:Forest along the valley - A2:Forest along the mountain streams
In Tokunoshima Island, abundant rainwater carved the ground, forming many rows of ridges and valleys. Plants adapting to the flowing and drying up of water grow in the harsh environment, where water swells and depletes every time rain falls. The waterfront is also a habitat for many creatures, including endemic species, with frogs and dragonflies breeding.
